The Sawmill was founded in 2010 under the umbrella of Prairie Partners Inc. and first opened it’s doors on June 5th. This monumental moment made possible thanks to many hours of community dedication, donations, and hands on labor!
Purpose
Besides serving up quality, freshly brewed coffee, desserts, and healthy lunches, we provide job coaching and life skills training for people living with disabilities!
The Sawmill employs approximately 20 people (between the café and kitchen) including 2 job coach positions and one manager.
The individuals working in the Sawmill or kitchen receive training in such areas as; customer service, food safety, operating the espresso machine and till, serving and much more, cooking, food preparation, dishes, food safety, packaging, catering training, cleanliness, and so much more. Goal planning sessions include planning for the future and building the steps to gain employment in the community.
Vision
The Sawmill is a not-for-profit community cafe! It is a place to build community connections, in a comfortable setting where everyone can come and relax, no purchase necessary! Enjoy fresh brewed coffees and teas, lunches, and delicious desserts!
Our mandate
The Sawmill is supported directly by community donations and purchases. All proceeds and donations are utilized to further the work of Prairie Partners Inc. and its programs. Sawmill acts as a gathering place for the community, provides a place where youth, young families, seniors, and everyone else, can feel at home.
Caitlyn has worked at the Sawmill for over 4 years, and has enjoyed expanding her skill set. Caitlyn has a job in the community as well as working in the kitchen and cafe!
